Bullying and its consequences are very real issues that continue to affect our lives.
We initially developed a `Stop Bullying` program specifically for 10-year-olds. Now, we have tailored versions for each grade.
Unfortunately, schools can be havens for bullies, while passive bystanders often remain silent. Those who want to speak up may stay quiet out of fear of becoming victims themselves. Too often, educators and parents are unaware of what happens behind the scenes.
Our `Stop Bullying` program directly challenges this culture of silence, empowering each learner in a life-changing way.
We hope that, in some small way, our efforts will help teachers put an end to bullying behaviour.

Grade 3
'Not a Bully' Tag

The Story follows a young Ndebele boy who tragically loses both parents in a car accident. The family decides he should live with his aunt in Bruntville, Mooi River, KZN. His new school primarily speaks Zulu, and he is ostracized because of his different culture. His life is miserable until he is presented with an opportunity to show his peers that he can handle a difficult situation due to his upbringing. As a result, he earns the respect of all the children in the school.
It is a compelling story that should lead to class discussions on bullying.
Activity: A mix of wooden and plastic beads, alphabet beads, and thick elastic.

Grade 4
'No Bullies' Band

This Story follows a brother and sister who live on the edge of a mangrove forest. They are bullied at school and find an escape from the bullies in the forest. There, they discover a tiny dinosaur living in the swamp. Tinysaurus teaches them about the forest.
The children are horrified to learn that the local people plan to clear the mangrove trees to make way for town development. They then face bullying from both their peers and town leadership.
Activity: A beaded wristband using wooden disc beads, plastic beads, and alphabet beads.

The Story is about a hive of bees living on Mr. Ferrin's farm. One little bee is bullied by the swarm, forcing her to separate from the other bees. Blossom’s problem was that instead of making a nice, loud buzz, buzz sound, she made a zubb, zubb sound. The other bees picked on her constantly until she was forced to leave the swarm. A situation arises where a group of children lights a fire that threatens the lives of the bees. Blossom Bee manages to overcome the disaster. The topic of bullying is discussed.
Activity: A beaded band using plastic beads and wooden disc beads.

Grade 2
The Buddy Band
Be a buddy, never a bully.
The Story is about a young Zulu boy who has to leave his farming community and move to the city. The children at the new school tease him constantly, but his worst nightmare occurs when they have to write to a friend. He had not admitted that he could not read or write, as he had not attended school while living on the farm.
He uses his Zulu traditions and customs to solve his problem and earn the respect of his peers. The beading exercise is easy.
Activity: A beaded band using glass beads.

The story begins with an African myth about a frog and a scorpion, illustrating the dangers of trusting harmful influences.
It follows two girls excited to enter high school. They are exposed to drugs and alcohol and, after a night at a pub, end up in the hospital. One girl recalls the myth of the frog and the scorpion, told to her by a family’s Zulu cleaning lady when she was young. She realizes how the lesson applies to real-life peer pressure.
This story serves as a cautionary tale for students as they prepare to leave the safe school environment.
Activity: Making a scorpion using plastic and glass beads, as well as soft copper wire.

The story is about a school trip to the Drakensberg. One of the girls is overweight and, in an attempt to stop the bullying, takes her mother's slimming tablets. Unbeknownst to her, the tablets are diuretics, which could lead to dehydration and even death. (This part of the story is based on a true event.)
With the teacher having to accompany the girl to the hospital, the rest of the group is left alone in a cave. They are surprised when a dragon creeps out from the back of the cave and speaks to them about bullying.
Activity: A wristband using elastic, wooden disc beads, and plastic beads.

Grade 6
Sailing away from bullying

This story deals with bullying in school, with the victims being twin siblings. While the boy is bullied during a rugby match, his nose is badly broken. At the hospital, he confides in an elderly man-the commodore of a local yacht club-who encourages the twins to take up sailing, as no bullying is tolerated there.
In an important regatta event, the school bullies take a yacht without permission and launch it at night for fun. A sudden storm puts their lives in danger. The bullied boy and his sister risk their own safety to rescue the bullies.
This story highlights how bullying can lead to life-threatening situations and how kindness can overcome hostility.
Activity: Making a small red-sail yacht to wear or attach to a school satchel, using plastic, wooden beads, and soft copper wire.
